1. New database: RadixIndex School Reports
I'm pleased to announce that a new dataset has been made available at RadixIndex: the RadixIndex School Reports database. School reports were printed in Hungary mainly between 1849 and 1949. Besides other information, these typically include the lists of their students along with the grades students got. The first release of the database contains 50,000 records. Until the next update records are free to search. Updates are planned on the 15th days of every month. Now the next update is scheduled for February 15, 2002. Downloadable copies of pages are available for RadixIndex Standard and Light subscribers.

2. RadixIndex Personal Alerts news
This service was about to start back in August 2001. It is only these days that the researched surnames and places of those who registered for this service could be reviewed and fixed. No alert has been sent out. Now, as RadixIndex has a new database, and I have hot news about RadixRef, too (read along), it looks like alert time is here. Registered users might expect to receive message alerts soon.

If they wish, registered users of the RadixIndex Personal Alerts can have chance to win at the monthly RadixIndex drawing. Prizes are one RadixIndex Standard, one Light and one Mini subscription. With the activation of the Personal Alerts service, the computer picked winners for August, September, October, November, December 2001. I'm not entitled to publish the names or emails of the 15 winners, they are still welcome to leave a message at the site message board if they wish.

Sign up for the RadixIndex Personal Alerts service, if you would like to receive notice about records possibly of your interest, and to give yourself a chance to win a subscription!

3. Free access to 25,000 records of RadixRef
Due to the late start of the Personal Alerts Service, some of its registered users might have missed new additions to RadixRef. To be fair to them, and to please eventual visitors, I've decided to open access not only to records newer than one month, but all the records that were added after August 1, 2001. These 25,000 records are free to access until February 5, 2002.

4. From the RadixIndex Laboratories
Besides other planned databases already mentioned in the newsletter of August 1, 2001, a further one looks like taking shape. I was lucky to purchase a mysterious book in a second-hand book shop. This book does not have a title, not even a preface or explanation of its contents. It simply contains some 35,000 names of persons, their birth dates and places, sometimes reference and file numbers with years of authorities, then one, two or three letters, like B, K, KB, U. Last file years are from the early 1940s. Well, as it turned out, it is actually the watch-list of the Hungarian police with Communists, Social Democrats, suspicious, expelled persons, as it was in the early 1940s. Interesting material, hope this will be online soon at RadixIndex.

5. Update on RadixMaps 1:200,000 maps
I just could not keep the pace to go ahead significantly with the processing of these 1:200,000 maps of old Hungary. Requests for specific regions to be included at the next update have been received. If you wish your researched towns to be accessible soon, please drop me a line: support ..at.. radixindex.com.

6. Server will be down on January 19, 2002
My webhosting company will move to a new data center on January 19, 2002. Due to the move, they will shut down servers. Expected downtime of the radixindex.com server is 5-10 hours. We are sorry for any inconveniencies this might cause, and hope that the move will be smooth.

As always, check new things out on the RadixIndex website:
