1. Seven months at RadixIndex
On September 1, 2000 RadixIndex became half a year old. Based on talkback we can say that the majority of the 150+ subscribers like this research utility. Neither subscribers, nor me think that RadixIndex should not be improved, though. Read on, we have some good news!

2. Improvements in the 1891 industry and trade directory database
Quite a few members noted that having frequent surnames in their research agenda might make their record download allotment used up fast. Remember those Nagy-s, Horvath-s and other common names? Now I have two things to say.
First, a new utility enables you to better calibrate searches. When a surname query returns at least 15 records for any of the counties, members are now able to choose towns in which they are interested in.
Second, to tease both reseachers with frequent names and other members, the download allotment of people who have signed up through September 3, 2000 has been raised from 100 to 150 records. Also, the number of bonus copies that can be requested is now 20, instead of 15 for existing subscribers. So, enjoy more power!

3. Announcing the launch of RadixIndex Vol. 2
Another reason why subscribers might want to get more records is that the second one in the series of RadixIndex databases: RadixRef is now online. This is an index of persons listed in various biographical collections: books or periodicals, or even in archives records. For a start, 10,000 reference records are online now, more will be added biweekly. [Note: This database will be integrated into the members section by the end of September 2000. Until then, members can use it like anyone else, see next section of this newsletter.]

4. New records: free for one month
There is a new feature of RadixIndex: anyone can access newly added records for free for one month from the time of updloading them to the website. Anyone here means that access is not limited to subscribers. I try to publish new additions biweekly, usually on the 5th and 20th days of months and thus researchers can be sure that there will be free records anytime they visit the site. For the time being it means that searches in the RadixRef database can be done without signing up for RadixIndex.

5. RadixIndex Light and RadixIndex Mini are here!
Quite a few of visitors let me know that they would not need lots of records, they would like to see 5 or 20 or so. Now there are two more plans: RadixIndex Light (price: 10 US Dollars) lets you download 30 records and 5 copies for the bonus, while RadixIndex Mini (price: 5 US Dollars) comes with a limit of 15 downloadable records. Payments for them can be done online only.

I would like to thank all the support, recommendations and observations I have received from users of RadixIndex. Special thanks go to subscribers: funds coming from their subscriptions mean very much to improvements and additions to RadixIndex.
